1921 - On July 12, 1921, Mexicana Airlines was founded in Mexico City under the name Compaa Mexicana de Transportacin Area (CMTA).

Faustino Roel, then Deputy Secretary in charge of the Communication and Transportation Bureau, granted the first concession on the Mexico to Tampico route via Tuxpan to Lloyd A. Winship, Harry J. Lawson and Elmer C. Hammond. The three Americans began operations with four open-cockpit Lincoln Standard planes that were able to transport one passenger and 50 kilos of baggage and mail at 95km per hour, an incredible speed for the time. In its second year of operation, the airline logged 1,956 hours in the air with 10 Lincoln Standard biplanes. That amount of hours in the sky is currently reached in less than five days. With new investments, Mexicana Airlines was established.
